I'm Modeling
Saturday, November 17, 2007
I've been a fan of robots or mecha anime since I was young. I think I was influenced by Macross or Robotech when I was young and so Macross(not Robotech) remains my favorite. I always wanted my own model and about two weeks ago I was given my own at last. A 1/144 HG Chaos Gundam from Gundam Seed series.
Eddy, my classmate is an avid collector and possesses the tools to make a good model. To keep it simple I'll just show you some pics.

Eddy placed his collection in front of me to inspire me....
The little bits on the ground are the stuff I'm working on.

Chaos wears a Spartan helm!!

Chaos wears a Spartan helm!!
Basically the parts come in pieces like..

...this

...this
We need to pry them out, cement them together, put in the joints, sand-paper and then...

...spray

Parts with the first undercoat, another layer of the actual colour needs to be sprayed

Even the paints have a special brand

Vijay busy snipping the parts and reading the manual
Despite of all that, I'm only 70% done with it, most probably be completing it the next two weeks. Here's a showcase of...

Eddy's 1/100 NG Astray Red Frame..note the huge ass katana

And his 1/100 NG Gold Frame Amatu Custom that he completed yesterday...shiny

Gundam 00, this year's Gundam series is currently airing. Also modeling means modeling Gundam models, I'm in no way strutting any catwalk :D For more into the intricate world of Gundam modeling, see this Danny Choo post.

Macross
Thursday, July 05, 2007

This is Super Dimension Fortress Macross. Macross started with a 1970s anime that became the base for future mecha animes, alongside Gundam. The story goes that an alien ship crashlanded on Earth in 1999. The humans then
salvaged the alien technology and in turn mass-produces variable fighters; fighter jets that could transform to Gerwalk mode or soldier mode(robot). Another alien race arrives, begins a pewpew war
and that's where all the nerd-gasm aerial dogfights happen.
From Macross Zero, the latest instalment
Macross spawned five anime series and three OVAs. sh|ru remembers watching this on TV along with Robotech and Genesis Climber Mospeada. Not too be confused with Macross, Robotech is the American rebranding of Macross together with Mospeada with totally different storyline.
So the point of this post is? With the release of Transformers that also focuses on transforming machines, it would be a dream to see this series adapted to the silver screen. Remember Starscream's F-22 Raptor? Macross is the same thing. Think of it as something like Transformers meets Stealth.
Macross+ dogfight(the YF-19 is sh|ru's fav variable fighter; the red-white one)
The chances of it is really slim, probably the fan-base isn't big enough. FF7 got their movie because of the super-huge fanbase. Not many know about Macross. The best bet would be Gundam.
This year will be the 25th anniversary of Macross. Hopefully the pull another anime out of their a$$es.
